The match was preceded by a minute’s silence in memory of both Gresford Athletic under-10s player Freddie Pritchard and the victims of the Gresford Colliery Disaster.
Our visitors from Gresford were wearing fluorescent yellow shirts and made a bright start to the match. Within the opening minutes, Dave Forbes headed the ball just over the bar after a cross from the left.
In the tenth minute, Sam Jones got on the end of a deep cross from the right but his header at the back post was caught by Lewis Dutton.
Just before the quarter hour mark, the visitors missed a glorious chance to take the lead. An inswinging corner from the right by Charley Edge reached Dave Forbes in space at the back post. Somehow the attacker managed to send his shot straight into the arms of Carl Jones when it looked easier to score.
Mason Blackwell-Jones made a lively start to the game and had a shot blocked after he dribbled past several opponents. Sam Jones then fired the rebound over the bar.
Bangor soon had the ball in the net but Corrig McGonigle's effort was disallowed. The referee ruled that the ball had gone out of play after Dutton had parried James Barry's shot before Mason Blackwell-Jones played the ball back across goal.
However, it wasn't long until Bangor were in front. Sam Jones cut the ball back from the right and Mason Blackwell-Jones sidefooted past Dutton and into the net.
Shortly afterwards Bangor thought they had doubled their advantage but Corrig McGonigle's header was disallowed as the officials judged that the ball had gone out of play before being cut back.
HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 1-0 GRESFORD ATHLETIC
As in the first half, it was the visitors who threatened first with Dave Forbes heading narrowly wide after the ball was crossed in from the left.
Bangor were then spurred into action and came within inches of extending their advantage twice in a matter of seconds. Sam Jones fired in a powerful shot which cannoned off the underside of the bar and back out. Mason Blackwell-Jones headed the rebound goalwards but the ball struck the face of the crossbar and was cleared.
Corrig McGonigle then had a goal disallowed for the third time of the afternoon. He had finished neatly from close range but unfortunately from an offside position. McGonigle turn went close again after charging down an attempted clearance by Gresford goalkeeper Dutton.
Midway through the second half Gresford made a quadruple substitution as they sought a way back into the game. However, it was Bangor who were next to threaten and Dutton did well to push a powerful shot by Corrig McGonigle over the bar.
Within a minute, Bangor came close again when a shot by James Barry from outside the box went just over the crossbar. It was to be James Barry's last contribution of note as he was taken off along with Dion Jones and Sam Jones, with Joe Sullivan, Harry Galeotti and Dave Davies joining the action.
Mason Blackwell-Jones continued to look lively and fired a shot narrowly over the bar from 25 yards out. At the other end, Ilan Ap Gareth headed narrowly wide after the ball was flighted into the box from a free-kick.
With six minutes left, Corrig McGonigle broke forward on a quick counter attack and played a neat pass inside to Mason Blackwell-Jones. The midfielder tried to chip the ball over Dutton but his effort drifted narrowly wide.
Gresford pressed hard for an equaliser as a nervous last few minutes ensued. However, when the referee blew the final whistle after five minutes of injury time it was Bangor who secured a hard-fought win.
