On Saturday 16 November at 2pm, we travel to Caersws for a Welsh Cup fixture. It will our third trip to face the Mid Wales team at their home venue this season and the third competition in which we have played them.
Our first trip to the Recreation Ground (postcode: SY17 5SA) was in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup on 31 August. On that occasion, the score was level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. Joshua Allen had given the hosts the lead midway through the first half before Corrigh McGonigle equalised six minutes before half-time. We won 5-3 in the penalty shootout.
On 26 October, we drew 0-0 away to Caersws in the JD Cymru North. After the match, Bangor 1876 players and coaches made headlines by joining devoted supporter Mash for a dip in the nearby River Severn to raise awareness about men’s mental health.
We have reached this stage of the tournament after a home victory against Llay Welfare on Saturday 19 October. Although Jonathan Collo gave the visitors and early lead, Sam Jones equalised midway through the opening period. A penalty from Tom Mahoney inside the last ten minutes secured a 2-1 win.
While we were triumphing against Llay, Caersws were beating Rhyl 7-4 in a goal-fest during which the visitors also missed a penalty. Caersws entered this season’s Welsh Cup competition a round earlier than we did, so began their campaign with a 5-0 win at home to Cefn Albion back on 21 September.
The Welsh Cup has been an iconic part of the history of football in Bangor over the years, so please make the trip to Caersws to support out team if you can.
