In the scenic location of Glantraeth’s Trefdaeth ground, Bangor 1876 extended their lead at the top of the Gwynedd League with another victory. The scoring began in the ninth minute when captain Michael Johnson side-footed home from the edge of the six-yard box following a corner from the right.
Midway through the opening period, Dylan Summers-Jones doubled 1876’s advantage after a neat pass from Jamie Petrie. A few minutes later, Petrie looked to have made it 3-0 with a neat header but his goal was disallowed as he was adjudged to have been offside.
Goalkeeper Danial Williams made a good save from a shot from just outside the penalty area by Glantraeth attacker Bradley Bland shortly after the half hour mark. At the other end, Les Davies headed narrowly over the crossbar as 1876 sought a third goal.
A third goal almost arrived early in the second half when Dylan Summers-Jones hit the bar from close range. However, Jamie Petrie made the score 3-0 in 1876’s favour after 52 minutes when he turned neatly before shooting home from the edge of the six-yard area.
Ryan Pope came off the bench to make his debut for Bangor 1876 in the sixty-fourth minute, replacing Dylan Williams who was returning from injury. Pope slotted into the midfield well and played some astute passes. With just under twenty minutes left, recent signing Sion Parry joined the action in place of Michael Johnson and came close to scoring on several occasions.
Ben Owen added a fourth for Bangor 1876 with a powerful shot when the ball broke to him of the edge of the area after Sion Parry had been crowded out by the Glantraeth defence. A few minutes later, Dylan Summers-Jones almost doubled his tally for the afternoon after a mazy run left several Glantraeth players in his wake. However, his shot hit the post and rebounded to safety and the full-time outcome was a 4-0 victory for Bangor 1876.
Next up for 1876 is a home game against Waunfawr at Treborth on Monday 6 January (7.45pm kick-off). Once again, we will be collecting items for a local foodbank. Thank you to everyone who has supported our collections so far and helped to make a difference here in our local community.
