A week after winning at Trearddur Bay Bulls, Bangor 1876 returned to Holy Island to take on Caergybi. Going into the match, the hosts were defending an unbeaten home record in the league at Millbank.
Early on, Bangor 1876 suffered a blow as influential midfielder Dylan Williams had to be substituted after suffering an ankle injury. However, his replacement Harry Jones slotted in well in midfield and put in an assured performance as 1876 moved the ball well in the opening period as they played into a stiff wind.
With fourteen minutes gone, Bangor 1876 took the lead. Les Davies looked to be lining up a shot on goal from a free-kick but instead played the ball short to Cian Williams who broke into the right-hand side of the penalty area before calmly side-footing the ball past the goalkeeper.
Les Davies almost got on the scoresheet himself a few minutes later as he curled in a shot from about 20 yards out on the left-hand side of the pitch that the home keeper did well to claw away. As half-time approached, Benn Lundstram came close to scoring for Bangor 1876 from a similar position but his shot brought out another fine save from Caergybi’s goalkeeper.
Shortly after the break, Bangor 1876 did manage to double their advantage as Jamie Petrie managed to turn in a right-wing cross from close range at the second attempt. Midway through the second period, Petrie turned provided as his cross from the right was converted at the back post by Benn Lundstram to give 1876 a three-goal advantage.
With 73 minutes on the clock, Dylan Summers-Jones made it 4-0 with the goal of the game with a first time shot on his right foot from just outside the left edge of the penalty area. With ten minutes left, Jamie Petrie added a fifth after breaking into the right side of the area. In the final minute, Dylan Summers-Jones crowned a dominant second half performance with the sixth goal, powering home from close range after a free-kick from Shaun Lock had been parried by the home goalkeeper.
Bangor 1876 have now scored 60 goals in nine Gwynedd League matches this season, and move to a single point behind league leaders Trearddur Bay Bulls with three games in hand. Next up is a home match against Llanystumdwy at Treborth on Saturday 21 December (2.30pm kick-off). Please remember that there will be a food bank collection, so please try to bring along an item or two from the list on our website if you can.
