On a still autumn evening by the Menai Strait, there were few chances in the opening stages. Ruthin had two shots from long range and a cross from Bangor's Telor Williams landed on top of the net.
However, Bangor took the lead in the twelfth minute shortly after an injury stoppage. James Barry cut the ball back from the left and Ruthin’s Ryan Williams slid in and inadvertently diverted the ball past his goalkeeper Daniel Goldston and into the net.
Just before the quarter hour mark, Bangor doubled their advantage. Cortig McGonigle swung in a corner from the right and Telor Williams headed in from close range.
Ruthin sought a route back into the game and came close to reducing the deficit when Jamie Nash sent a powerful shot just over the bar from 20 yards. At the other end, James Barry and Joe Sullivan fired efforts narrowly wide from a similar distance.
Telor Williams came close to finding the net again shortly before the half hour mark. After receiving the ball near halfway, he strode forward, beat two players and narrowly missed the target with a powerful swerving shot.
Ruthin continued to threaten on the attack during a lively period of play and Jake Hughes Hampson shot just wide from 20 yards.
Ten minutes before the interval, Jake Hughes Hampson came close for the visitors. His swerving free-kick from 30 yards went over the defensive wall and only just cleared the crossbar.
HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 2-0 RUTHIN TOWN
In the opening stages of the second half, Bangor came close to extending their advantage. Corrig McGonigle got in behind the Ruthin defence but his attempted lob wasn't quite high enough to beat Goldson.
Shortly afterwards, the visitors came close to scoring following a corner but Llyr Morris’s header struck the crossbar and rebounded to safety.
Just before the hour mark, Bangor were within inches of adding a third goal. Mason Blackwell-Jones showed pace and skill on the right wing and his cross reached the onrushing Sam Jones on the opposite side of the area. Jones controlled the ball well before firing in a powerful shot that hir the post.
In the 74th minute, Bangor added a third goal after Mason Blackwell-Jones received a pass from Cai Powell-Roberts before dribbling past two visiting defenders and scoring with a low shot.
Inside the last ten minutes, the visitors twice came close to scoring within a minute. Ethan Davies headed over following a corner and then Bradley Farrar came out to save well at the feet of Llyr Morris.
Bangor kept pressing for further goals as the clock ticked down but we're happy to settle for a three goal win and a clean sheet in front of a crowd of over 400 spectators.
