On Friday 26 July at 7.45pm, we begin our second season in the JD Cymru North with a match away to Colwyn Bay. The Seagulls were in the JD Cymru Premier last season and are sure to provide tough opposition in this keenly anticipated North Wales coast derby.
Colwyn Bay play at the Four Crosses Construction Arena on Llaneiian Road (postcode LL29 8UN). Information about how to get to their ground can be found on their club website: https://cbfc.wales/contact/.
As mentioned in an article on Grassroots North Wales a few months ago, Colwyn Bay were the best supported team in Welsh domestic football last season with an average home crowd of 718. We also made the top five of this list, which was quite an achievement in only our fourth season since being founded in 2019.
We have not previously played Colwyn Bay in a competitive fixture, but faced them at Treborth in June 2021 in a test event as restrictions on sports events due to Covid-19 started to be eased. The only goal of the game was scored by Colwyn Bay’s Jordan Carrington.
Colwyn Bay concluded their pre-season friendlies recently with a 2-1 loss at home to Runcorn Linnets. They faced several other English non-league sides during pre-season games, winning 3-0 at home to AFC Liverpool, drawing 3-3 away to Whitchurch Alport and winning 7-0 at home to AFC Crewe. Bay suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Llanrwst in their first pre-season friendly of the summer but also achieved an impressive win at home to Cymru Premier side Bala by the same scoreline.
There will be several familiar faces in the Colwyn Bay ranks from our perspectives as defenders Sam Hart, Cai Owen, and Guto Williams all previously played their football here in Bangor. In our own squad, we have three former Colwyn Bay players in Tom Clarke, Kian Owen and Sam Jones.
There is likely to be a large crowd at this Friday’s match, so please try to arrive early if possible.
