It was the visitors who had most of the possession at the start of the game. They threatened inside the first five minutes when Gwion Owen broke down the right and played the ball across the face of goal. However, his pass eluded his incoming teammates and Bangor cleared..
Shortly afterwards, Tom Mahoney had a shot at goal for Bangor but his effort from just outside the penalty area went over the bar.
After a quiet spell, Bangor had a chance from a free-kick. Corrig McGonigle took aim but his curling shot went just wide of the post.
Ruthin earned a free-kick just outside the Bangor area a few minutes later but Kurtis Pearson’s shot rebounded off the defensive wall and Calum Butler fired the loose ball over the bar.
Shortly after the half hour mark, the visitors had a.great chance to open the scoring. Joel Giblin broke down the left and cut into the box. He cut the ball back towards Charlie Williams, but the midfielder shot over the bar from seven yards out. Williams then had another chance following a neat passing move but could only shoot into side-netting.
Mason Blackwell-Jones then showed some neat footwork at the other end before he was floored by a late tackle from Vita Mb that earned the defender a yellow card. Corrig McGonigle swung the ball into the box but Tom Clarke couldn't direct his header on target.
Williams again shot at goal for Ruthin inside the final minute of the opening period but his effort from 20 yards curled just wide of the post.
HALF-TIME: BANGOR 1876 0-0 RUTHIN TOWN
Bangor made a substitution at the interval with Liam Morris replacing Corey Jones. The visitors remained unchanged although Ruthin manager Phil Hudson didn't return to the visitors’ dugout after receiving a red card during half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, Gwion Owen had a great chance for Ruthin after he beat the offside trap and broke into the box but he was crowded out by a combination of Iolo Hughes and Huw Shaw. The Bangor keeper appeared to land awkwardly and was stretchered off. He was replaced by Carl Jones.
Just after the hour mark, Bangor created a chance after a spell of pressure. Dale Davies knocked the ball down but Tom Clarke shot over the bar from the edge of the box.
At the other end, Gwion Owen crossed from the left shortly afterwards but Llŷr Morris headed over the bar.
Inside injury time, Liam Morris fired in a powerful shot from a tight angle but it was parried out for a corner by Daniel Goldston.
The visitors broke almost immediately following the corner and centre back Vita Mbolokele found himself clean through on goal. However, his shot was saved by Carl Jones.
Both sides continued to press for a winner during a lengthy spell of injury time but the match finished goalless as Bangor chalked up their first draw of the season.
