Second half goals make the difference

Early on it was the hosts who threatened first. Joshua Evans went on a mazy run that took him past several players. The ball then broke to Jack Edwards, but his shot was.blocked by a Bangor defender.

Just after the ten minute mark, Bangor came close to opening the scoring. Mason Blackwell-Jones showed pace to break down the right and cut inside. He then sent in a powerful low shot but home goalkeeper Morgan Edmunds saved well with his feet.

A few minutes later, Bangor threatened on the opposite side of the pitch. A quick break saw former Ruthin player Dan Cox play an inviting pass inside towards Corrig McGonigle. The prolific attacker shot well on the turn but Edmunds managed to push his shot around the post.

After 25 minutes, Bangor were initially awarded a penalty by the referee after Corrig McGonigle went down following a tackle by Ryan Williams. However, the official changed his mind after consulting one of his assistants.

Bangor continued to press and came close when Corrig.McGonigle headed the ball narrowly over after Tom Mahoney sent in a corner from the right.

The hosts then had a chance just over ten minutes before the break. Jake Hughes Hampson swung in a free kick from just outside the box, but the ball drifted just wide of the back post. Almost immediately afterwards, Bangor came close at the other end when Mason Blackwell-Jones curled in a threatening free-kick but a home defender headed the ball behind for a corner.

Inside the final few minutes of the opening half, Liam Morris came close when he fired in a powerful low shot at the back post after good work by Mason Blackwell-Jones. However, Edmunds repelled his effort.

In first half injury time, Morris had another chance after he got on the end of a through ball from Dan Cox put him through but he couldn't quite put enough elevation on his shot to beat home keeper Edmunds.

At the other end, the hosts came within inches of taking the lead just before the break. A cross which was swung in from the left eluded everyone before bouncing back into play off the inside of the post.

HALF-TIME: RUTHIN TOWN 0-0 BANGOR 1876

Ten minutes into the second period the hosts took the lead via their number ten. A long cross from the left reached Joshua Evans at the back post and the attacker scored with a powerful low finish.

Midway through the second period, Bangor had a chance to equalise when Mason Blackwell-Jones played a neat through ball towards Harry Galeotti, but Edmunds was our quickly to smother the attacker's attempt.

Inside the last quarter hour Bangor gave the ball away when seeking to play their way out from the back. The ball was then played through the middle to Jack Edwards, who side-footed the ball past Carl Jones to double Ruthin’s advantage.

Bangor came close to quickly reducing the deficit after winning a free-kick just outside the Ruthin box. Corrig McGonigle curled in a shot but it drifted just wide.

Inside the last five minutes, Bangor continued to press and a long range shot from Telor Williams went narrowly wide of the target. Liam Morris then went close after cutting in from the right wing but his effort went the wrong side of the post.

Twice within a minute during injury time, Telor Williams went close. First of all he saw a close range shot turned away by Edmunds and then headed over the bar following a corner.

In the final minute of injury time, Telor Williams picked out Corrig McGonigle at the back post and the striker found the net with a calm finish.

Unfortunately the goal didn't make a difference to the outcome as there wasn't time to re-start the game before the final whistle sounded.
