After games here in Bangor against FC United and Penmaenmawr Phoenix within the last week, our next friendly sees us embark on an away trip. On Saturday 13 July, we are away to fellow fan-owned team City of Liverpool. The game kicks off at 3pm and takes place at the DCBL Stadium in Widnes (postcode: WA8 7DZ).
The match will take on an added significance as we will be competing with City of Liverpool to win this year’s Brian Lomax Cup, which is presented each year to the winners of a match between community-owned clubs in order to celebrate this type of football. Last year, the Brian Lomax Cup was won by Peacehaven & Telscombe after they won against Dunstable Town.
The Brain Lomax Cup is named after a man who is seen by many as having played a major role in the drive to create supporters’ trusts. More information about this trophy can be found on the website of the Football Supporters’ Assoication: https://thefsa.org.uk/news/brian-lomax-cup-celebrating-fan-owned-clubs-this-summer/.
Our opponents City of Liverpool play in the Northern Premier League Division One West, and finished fifth in the table in the 2023-24 season. They are known as The Purps due to their purple coloured home kit and have been in good form during the pre-season. The Merseyside outfit warmed up for this weekend’s game by winning 5-1 away to Charnock Richard and 6-2 away to Winstanley..
Tickets for Saturday’s game will be available on the gate, but you can save money buy purchasing online at the following address: https://app.fanbaseclub.com/Fan/Tickets/SelectType?fixtureId=6092.
The game has the makings of an exciting occasion, so please support our team as they prepare for the new season.
