Two goals from Jos Lloyd & another by Cameron Barry ensure Bangor 1876 progress to Round 3 of the FAW Trophy

Bangor 1876's winning start to the season continued against Tier 4 opponents CPD Pwllheli FC with a 3-1 verdict in an FAW Trophy Round Two tie at Treborth on Saturday afternoon.

With Manager Mel Jones absent, Assistant Manager Dylan Williams was presented with a selection dilemma pre-match with leading goalscorer Jamie Petrie missing out through illness. A re-shuffle to the starting eleven saw Shaun Lock drafted in at left back with Jos Lloyd moving to a more advanced midfield role.

With the visitors undergoing a change of management earlier in the month, it was the Welsh Alliance League Division Two club that created the first goalscoring opportunity when Dafydd Gwyn Jones saw an eighth minute effort hit the side netting as he was forced wide by home goalkeeper Leon Jones.

On the 15 minute mark, Dylan Summers-Jones lifted a first-time effort onto the roof of the net to the relief of Pwllheli goalkeeper Lee Fletcher. Two minutes later at the opposite end, Leon Jones again had to be at his best to save a Steffan Toplis effort with his legs to concede a corner kick. The home 'keeper duly collected the resulting flag kick with ease.

The opening goal came in the twenty second minute, a swift pass out to the right flank found Dylan Summers-Jones who sent in a low delivery across the goalmouth with Jos Lloyd on hand at the far post to stab home from six yards for the lead.

Just before the half hour mark, Pwllheli's Marcus Banks saw his effort repelled by the excellent Leon Jones and swiftly turning defence into attack Bangor 1876's Louis McFarlane saw his drive from range saved by Pwllheli 'keeper Fletcher. On 32 minutes, Cameron Barry was penalised for a handling offence and from the resulting free kick Jones once again saved from Gareth Jones-Evans' set-piece.

As the game ebbed and flowed from end to end, midfielder Dylan Williams tried his luck from the edge of the box but Fletcher was again equal to the task before saving a Les Davies shot on 34 minutes.

The home side threatened again five minutes before the interval with Summers-Jones going to ground under a challenge inside the area but the penalty appeal was dismissed. Shortly thereafter, Shaun Lock saw his effort deflected behind by Dafydd Buckley Roberts at the expense of a corner.

The visitors then struck level right on the stroke of half time. A free kick conceded on the left hand edge of the Bangor penalty area was whipped in with both power and precision by Jones-Evans to give Leon Jones very little chance and ensured that both teams headed into the dressing rooms level at one goal apiece.

The home side were first to apply the pressure after the restart with Les Davies seeing his free kick blocked after goalkeeper Fletcher was penalised for time-wasting.

With ten minutes of the second half played, Bangor 1876 made a double substitution in an effort to exert more control of the game. Matthew Lock replaced Louis McFarlane at right back, and recent signing Ben Owen made his debut in place of Luke Steele in the centre of midfield.

Just before the hour, Dylan Summers-Jones latched onto a through ball on the right flank and, as he made inroads towards goal, a defensive combination of goalkeeper and centre back was sufficient to deny the Anglesey-based talent.

Bangor gradually seized the initiative with Ben Owen exerting control over the midfield alongside Dylan Williams and Cameron Barry. On 66 minutes, Shaun Lock sent a cross into the area which Summers-Jones laid off for Les Davies who was unlucky to see his 12-yard effort narrowly off target.

Five minutes later Shaun Lock and Jos Lloyd combined on the left flank but the cross was half-cleared and Summers-Jones sent another cross from the opposite flank whistling across the face of the Pwllheli goalmouth.

The all-important breakthrough for Bangor arrived on 72 minutes in a carbon copy of the opening goal. Dylan Williams was the provider this time as he sent a low, powerful ball across the six-yard line which Jos LLoyd gratefully pounced on at the far post for a 2-1 lead.

The visitors made an immediate change following the goal with Jason Banks replacing Jamie Underwood and the home side were mightily relieved to see a Dafydd Gwyn Jones shot strike the foot of the upright.

Bangor increased their advantage almost immediately as Man of the Match Jos Lloyd turned provider with a delivery from the left that found Cameron Barry and the young midfielder made no mistake to beat Fletcher and net for the second match in succession.

With 78 minutes played, Benn Lundstram was introduced in place of Shaun Lock with Jos Lloyd shifting back into the left hand side of the defence. Pwllheli made their third and final substitution with less than ten minutes remaining, only to be further reduced to ten men for the rest of the match as goalscorer Jones-Evans limped off soon afterwards.

Lundstram almost added to the afternoon's goal tally as he sent a left-footed shot crashing against the Pwlheli post with three minutes left on the clock. As the game entered its final minute, the last opportunity of the day fell to Dylan Williams whose shot flew agonisingly over the Pwllheli crossbar.
