Last week, we held our Annual General Meeting, just ahead of the start of the new season. The AGM was very well supported, with around 80 members attending.

In terms of AGM business, the accounts were accepted, and for the first time this year, included a fully independent audit. We passed the audit with flying colours, paying testimony to the excellent financial controls in place.

In terms of Board membership, Linda Roberts and Dave Roberts were re-elected and, after a couple of years away from the mainstream business, Dafydd Hughes also re-joined the Board. Robin Williams was co-opted as a Board member, along with Meilyr Jones, our new Club Secretary. Meilyr replaces Simon Leeson, who did a tremendous job last season. Thanks Simon.

We also agreed to co-opt representatives of the Bangor City Stadium Committee. The recent impressive improvements to the stadium, along with the ambitions of the new committee, make it essential that we work closely together. We now have the best stadium in the Welsh pyramid system, and, together, we can ensure that the first team get all the support to push on towards the top of Tier 2 and beyond.

Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the possibilities of changing the club’s name to Bangor City 1876. If that is feasible, a meeting of fans will be called to vote on any proposed changes. Not everyone feels that the change will be a positive move, while others believe that the name-change will be the natural progression towards healing old wounds. Whichever way it goes, it will be down to the members to decide.

The club’s infrastructure would not be complete without our community and youth set-ups. We need to build on last year’s progress, and work on establishing a pathway for local players to come through our ranks to be challenging for a first-team place.

As the new season starts, we are optimistic that we can build on last year’s successes. In gaining promotion, our plan was for consolidation in year 1 – which we surpassed by finishing 5th in the league – building on that progress in year 2, and going for promotion in year 3. The fact that we achieved more than many of us expected last season bodes well for the new season. There have been some impressive additions to the squad during pre-season, and we look forward eagerly to the start of the new campaign.

With improved facilities at the stadium, a stronger squad, and the ambition to continually improve, we hope that we can build on the excellent support we receive, both home and away. Season tickets and club memberships are available, so join us on this exciting journey as we again aim to make the people of Bangor proud of Bangor 1876.
