We are delighted to be one of the first clubs in North Wales to participate in the We Wear the Same Shirt project. The initiative involves a collaboration between Time to Change Wales and the Football Association of Wales Trust, and sets out to use football to challenge stigma surrounding mental health.
If you're an adult living with a mental health condition, then We Wear the Same Shirt wants you to join our team. Our football programme is free from the pressures of competition, and will be fun and social.
The sessions will take place at Treborth and we had intended that they would begin on Monday 23rd March and last from 6:30-8.00pm. However, we have decided to postpone the launch of this project due to advice from the FAW Trust concerning the Coronavirus.
The 90-minute sessions will begin with a 30 minute chat detailing the initiative and allowing anyone to talk about their issues / problems. There is no pressure to do this of course but the 30 mins window is there for that purpose. After this, participants will head out to the pitch for a fun hour-long session.
Iwan Williams, who will be leading the sessions, has said that "it is common knowledge that mental health can be helped to a degree by participating in physical exercise. We are hoping that these fun football sessions will help people who may have been having a tough time recently. if we can help one person then that means the initiative is a success."
