Jamie Petrie recently became the first player to score 50 goals for Bangor 1876. We recently caught up with him to discuss this landmark, the season so far, and his hopes for the new year.
You're currently 1876's record goalscorer. Which of the goals that you've scored so far stand out most for you and why?
The 50th one! I had no idea to be honest and I’d had a frustrating number of games without scoring prior to it. It means a lot to be the first person to have reached this milestone, even more special to have been on the day that the stand was named after Vera. She was always there for a pre or post match hug and it’s just not the same without her.
Growing up, which strikers did you admire or seek to emulate?
I was growing up during Yorke and Cole, Michael Owen, Robbie Keane…but as a Wigan fan…it was actually Graeme Jones! I still have a photo with him on my wall!
As we're approaching Christmas, can you tell us about any memorable football related Christmas presents you've received in the past?
The old school fake kits you used to get that came in a box, the team badge was separate and you had to sew it on!
Some people make resolutions at the start of a new year. Are you you planning to make any and do you have any particular hoped for the reminder of the season?
Not really. After the last few years, just completing the season would be an achievement! But with the squad and support we’ve got, I’m sure it will be a successful one.
