Gethin Thomas interview

"I can't wait to get back out on the pitch"

Gethin Thomas had a good start to the season but has recently been out injured . However, he hopes to be back on the pitch again soon. Read more in our latest interview...

At the start of the season, you were scoring quite a lot of goals (8 in 8 games). Do you have a favourite goal?
I’d had a really good start to the season and felt that I was getting better each game, and that showed with scoring 8 goals in 8 games. It’s hard to choose one in particular but if I had to choose one, then I’d go for the one I scored from outside the box against Pentraeth. It was a great feeling to power one into the top corner in front of our supporters.

In August, you suffered a bad injury. How has the recovery been going?
Yes, unfortuantely after a good start to the season I broke the lateral malleolus in my ankle and suffered tendon damage in the opening minutes of the game we were playing against Gaerwen. I knew right away after the bad tackle that I’d done something serious to it.

Of course what’s made it worse has been missing lots of important games during the time I’ve been out, so it hasn’t been easy at all. The recovery has been going OK, but it’s frustrating having been out for so long. I think it’s worse because I’m normally really active between football games but of course I can’t do anything.

I am very grateful to the club, who have been supporting me from the start by making sure that I’m doing OK and have helped with physio arrangements. The physio Rakesh deserves praise, as he’s been great at helping get me back on my feet and ready to get back to playing. I am almost ready to come back so I can’t wait to be able to get back out on the pitch and play in front of our great supporters.

How have you been dealing with not playing football?
The best way I have dealt with not playing football has been staying in touch with the whole team, coaches, and supporters. Over recent months, I have had the chance to support the club from the touchline and it’s been great to be able to catch up with other supporters and see the game from a different perspective. I have been joining the team in the changing room before and after games, which has been a great way of being part of the team spirit and supporting the lads.

What are your hopes for the rest of the season?
My main hope for the rest of the season is to get myself back on the pitch as soon as possible and back fit in order to play in games again. The main reason is in order to be able to take part and play my parti n helping the team work towards finishing the season very strongly and achieving our goal of getting promotion to the league above. There are a lot of important games coming up after Christmas and it’s important for us to concentrate on getting the best possible results in every game we play. I am sure that the supporters want the same thing and that together we can reach the goal.

What are you looking forward to over Christmas?
Over Christmas, I am looking forward to the break from football as it means that I’m not missing many more games and can use the time to get back fit! In addition, I am looking forward to being able to spend Christmas with my family a celebrate my 22nd birthday on 22nd December. I will have a chance to catch up with football traning and getting fit with a view to hoping to be back on the pitch in the new yaer.

I would like to with a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone connected with the club and look forward to more success in 2022.
