Bangor 1876 fan Paul Templer discusses the season so far and an upcoming charity challenge that he is coordinating...
What do you remember of the first Bangor 1876 match you went to?
It was the FC United away trip. I remember meeting everyone before we set off, seeing faces that I hadn't seen at the football for a while. There was a buzz around that I hadn't felt in quite a long time, and as for the feeling and scenes when we scored that day, well limbs everywhere!
What's been the best thing about following the team this season?
It's definitely the togetherness , even in such a short time you can see that everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction. You can see that the players know what it means to everyone that goes to support home and away every week.
Do you have a favourite match this season?
I probably have two favourite games, the above mentioned trip to FC United because it was the first ever game and the Welsh Cup game against Penycae, the atmosphere with the last gasp equaliser went in and then the bonus of winning on penalties.
What's the best Bangor 1876 goal you've seen this season?
Best goal is a tough one as there have been so many, Johno's first goal in many years is probably up there as a surprising favourite though
One of the consequences of the Coronavirus situation is that you've had to cancel a charity football match involving several Bangor 1876 players that was due to take this month. Can you tell us about the event you're now organising instead?
Unfortunately the match had to be cancelled but we're hopeful of re-arranging it, even if it;s next year. We've organised a 26.2 mile in 7 days challenge where people can run/walk said distance in the week allotted , makes it more open to people of all fitness levels. All the donations get donated to The Lily Foundation, which we have been fundraising for about five years after losing a family member to Mitochondrial disease. The charity works to raise funds and increase awareness of Mitochondrial Disease, as well as funding medical research in the hope of one day finding a cure. I've been extremely lucky that the club were very keen to get involve, and we have members of the management team, players, and committee members all taking part
What can people to do if they want to support the fundraiser or take part themselves?
If anyone would like to take part they are more than welcome to get in touch with me for details, it's pretty simple and not as scary as the distance sounds. If anyone would like to donate rather than take the challenge on that would also be amazing. You can do so through my own just giving page (click here) or through the Lily Foundation's website (click here), where you can also see what great work they do.
