"The buzz around the club is fantastic"

Kev Taylor talks about the season so far as well as the importance of fan-owned and community-focused football.

What does Bangor 1876 represent for you?
1876 for me is all about bringing football back to how it was in the City and embracing the community whilst doing so. The buzz around the club is fantastic and that is down to everybody owning a part of the club with everybody keen to make a contribution however small it may be. I am looking forward to taking part in the ‘We Wear The Same Shirt’ with Iwan Williams and Sion Devereux as mental health is a big talking point at the moment and is a subject very close to my heart. The aim is to get people to talk about their mental health and to have fun along the way with some football sessions.

What do you see as the club's greatest achievement so far this season?
For me the greatest achievement is how the club has gone from strength to strength as the season has progressed. The commitment shown by the players, management team, board and supporters has been fantastic and that commitment just seems to be growing every day.

When we ask fans about their favourite games so far, the ones against FC United and Penycae are often top of the list. Which other games stand out for you?
The football that we’ve witnessed this season has been tremendous and the team have dug deep where needed. The cup game at Menai Bridge is a great example of how the team can play ugly when needed. There was a lot of hype before the game as it was classed as a derby match and there was a lot at stake. The pitch was in a terrible condition but the players showed that they can mix it up as well as playing great football. The atmosphere was electric and being so close to the pitch made it all the better and even though we won 5-1 I don’t believe the scoreline reflected our domination of the game with the opposing keeper having a blinder.

If you had to nominate a Bangor 1876 goal of the season so far, which one would it be and why?
My favourite goal has to be the second goal in our home match against Waunfawr. The team put a string of passes together, being patient with the build-up and nearly every player getting a touch along the way. The ball ended up on the right wing with Matty Lock and he floated in a superb cross for Les to glance in a neat header to the visiting keeper’s bottom right-hand corner. A fantastic team goal.

If you could change one thing about football, what would it be and why?
For me there is far too much money in the game at the top level in England and in turn this causes clubs lower down to have to fight much harder to survive. There should be a cap on how much a player can earn and by doing this you would find out quickly enough which players play for the love of the club and not for the love of money. Something has to change and being a part of Bangor 1876 has shown me the way forward is to be a supporter-owned club and the FC United model is a great way of showing how it should be done.
