"The connection between the fans and the players is so strong"

Alice John talks about why she enjoys following Bangor 1876 home and away, and what she feels the club represents for the local community.

What's it been like following Bangor 1876 this season and what would you say the club means to you?
It’s been such a high from the word go hasn’t it?! I’ve loved every second of it, it’s been so fun going to all the games, home and away! The club has given me something to look forward to at the end of each week. The buzz you get from going to watch a good game is indescribable. This club has the best community spirit and we’ve proved this by all the food bank donations from the fans and raising money for charity; this really connects the community and the fans, and it has been so important. The club has brought so many of us closer together as friends and I’ll always be grateful for that. I’m so excited to see what the next season brings!!

What are the things you most like about matchdays at Treborth?
I can’t describe the feeling I get from watching the games on a Saturday whether that be home or away, there’s always familiar faces supporting the team and I really love seeing everyone at the weekend and having a good moider! The connection between the fans and the players is so strong as we all know each other, the buzz between the two is so apparent on match days and that’s what makes it exciting! It’s just amazing how far we’ve come in such a short space of time! I can’t remember what I used to do on Saturdays before going to football! I love that the younger generations mix with the older generation and we all just get on like a massive family. We gather together on the bonc and have a beer, chat about the weeks we’ve all had at work and then we all watch the game together. Come rain or shine we're always there cheering the team on.

Do you have a favourite away trip from this season?
All the away days are always so much fun. One of my favourites is definitely Llanystumdwy when we all went on the coach. Some of the players came with us, which was nice for both the players and the fans as we got to spend some time with them rather than watching them play! It was such a good day and it’s always nice to catch up with fans that I don’t necessarily see each week. The match against Llanelwy in Rhyl was another favourite away game, it’s a fantastic day out for everyone and we always have such a laugh.

What would you say have been the most memorable goals you've seen Bangor 1876 score this season?
The Welsh Cup game against Penycae at home was the best game I’ve ever been to! Everyone was on such a high afterwards as it was so exciting from start to finish - so many ups and downs in one game. I can’t wait for more gripping matches like that next season!

How have you been coping with the lack of football during lockdown?
It’s been so weird not going every week to watch the games as we’ve all been going religiously since the end of last summer! It’s such a shame with regards to pandemic as we were on such a roll with the games and it would have been amazing to have celebrated winning the league and to go watch the team play especially with the lovely weather we’ve been having!! I’m sure we’ll all make up for lost time when we all see each other again and I can’t wait for the first game back, it’s going to be so good!
